State courthouses closed for most proceedings Wednesday
Most Orange County Superior courthouses will be closed for most proceedings on Wednesday – employees including court commissioners will be on furlough – because of the state's fiscal crisis.
Jurors are not to report for jury duty, and there will be no in-person services available for traffic matters, said court spokeswoman Carole Levitzky. Citations, though, can be paid online at www.occourts.org or at a court drop box.
There will be some limited proceedings at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana and the Lamoreaux Justice Center in Orange, including criminal in-custody arraignments, surrenders and juvenile-dependency hearings.
Orange County sheriff's personnel also will be stationed outside closed courthouses at the West Justice Center in Westminster, North Justice Center in Fullerton, and the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach and in Laguna Hills to hand out information to individuals seeking emergency protective or temporary restraining orders.
This closure date is not a holiday; it is a court day, and all statutory time limits and due dates apply, Levitzky said. Drop boxes or door slots are at each justice center for filing papers and submitting payments.
